What is keratitis?

The cornea is the outer layer at the front of the eye and acts as a barrier for the eye to the outside world, so it is more susceptible to the inflammation caused by microorganisms, trauma and physical and chemical stimuli. Keratitis is one of the common, but also the serious eye diseases. It is one of the major causes of blindness in China.

Symptoms of Keratitis:

Serious inflammation symptoms, such as pain, blurred vision, sensitivity to light, excessive tearing, spasm of eyelid and other irritative symptoms as well as obvious decreased vision.

Patients with keratitis have not only ciliary congestion, but also iris congestion. In severe cases, the patients may develop edema in the bulbar conjunctiva or even the eyelids.

Ophthalmic examination shows loss of corneal gloss, decreased transparency and ulceration.

Dangers of Keratitis:

In the early stage of keratitis, the symptoms are mild and often easy to be ignored. If left untreated, keratitis will cause corneal perforation, inflammation of the intraocular contents, damaging the entire eyeball, which may eventually lead to blindness.
