Introduction to the Department:

Department of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus of Shenyang He Eye Specialist Hospital has internationally advanced laboratories specializing in the research and development of hereditary eye diseases, and boasts rich experiences in genetic diagnosis of diseases leading to blindness such as hereditary retinal pigment degeneration, hereditary optic nerve atrophy, retinoblastoma and congenital cataract. He has accumulated rich experience in genetic diagnosis.

For more than two decades, the department has always been in line with the latest research and development trends at home and abroad. It has a diversified, three-dimensional and standardized amblyopia diagnosis and treatment system, combined with traditional Chinese medicine aid therapy, amblyopia training center, network amblyopia training platform and vision training system.

Indications:

Strabismus surgery and non-surgical treatment for children and adolescents; diagnosis, treatment and training of amblyopia; diagnosis and treatment of myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism; diagnosis and treatment of children and adolescent eye deformities such as ptosis, nystagmus and blepharophimosis; diagnosis and treatment of ocular surface diseases, dacryocystitis, ocular trauma, glaucoma, retinoblastoma, congenital cataract and other eye diseases of children and adolescents; genetic counseling and prenatal diagnosis of various congenital eye diseases; diagnosis and treatment of various congenital and difficult pediatric eye diseases and treatment.

What is amblyopia?

Amblyopia is a type of poor vision without obvious organic lesions in the eyes, and that happens in one eye or both eyes, mainly caused by functional factors, which cannot be improved to normal levels even with glasses (3 years old ≥0.5, 4 years old ≥0.6, and 5 years old ≥ 0.8). Amblyopia in children and adolescents is mostly associated with refractive errors and strabismus.

Amblyopia is an eye disorder with visual dysfunction. The cause of low vision of people with amblyopia is that the visual system does not receive normal visual stimulation and is stunted.

Dangers of amblyopia:

Amblyopia in children and adolescents has low vision, and even with glasses, normal vision cannot be achieved, thus affecting the lives and study of children and adolescents. Meanwhile, the harm of amblyopia on children and adolescents physically and mentally cannot be ignored. Because of poor vision, they have such troubles as difficulty in concentration, slow response speed, poor receptivity, possible induction of ADHD, which will inevitably affect their academic performance, make them lonely, autistic, self-contemptuous, and will also affect college entrance examination and employment greatly. This will pose an influence throughout their lives.
